RIDS 2008 General Show Rules

The Rhode Island Dahlia Society will not be responsible for loss of or damage to any exhibits, containers or other personal property of exhibitors, but will exercise all reasonable care to protect the interests of the exhibitors. Containers furnished by exhibitors should be marked on the bottom and picked up at the close of the show on Sunday.

1. Entries may be made from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Friday, September 5th and from 7:00 A.M. to 11:00A.M. on Saturday, September 6th. Judging will begin promptly at 12:00 Noon on Saturday.

2. The Show Chair reserves the right to interpret and make decisions pertaining to the rules, make clarifications as necessary and resolve any ambiguities that may arise, to ensure an orderly show.

3. All entries must remain in place until 4:00 P.M. Sunday, unless permission to remove an entry is granted by the Show Chair. The Show Chair may remove entries unworthy of display at any time.

4. Only tags supplied by the Rhode Island Dahlia Society may be used.

5. Each entry must be plainly and correctly marked with the name of the variety and the correct section and class. If unnamed seedlings are shown they must be labeled with the grower’s identification numbers. The tag showing the exhibitors name must be closed when the entry is placed on the show table.

6. The tags of blue ribbon winners must remain closed until all judging in that section has been completed and all tri-color winners have been chosen in the section.

7. All exhibitors must register their name, address and telephone number in a book provided by the Show secretary.

8. No buds or added foliage are permitted in the bloom classes.

9. The use of any materials to support a stem above the top of a container other than the wedges supplied by the Rhode Island Dahlia Society will be cause for disqualifying any specimen bloom entries.

10. Exhibitors must use containers furnished by the Rhode Island Dahlia Society except where noted in the show schedule or where permission is granted by the Show Chairperson.

11. All specimen bloom entries must be exhibited under the name of the grower.

12. All three bloom classes must show three blooms of the same variety and staged in a single container.

13. During the judging, no one except the judges and support personnel are allowed in the exhibition hall.

14. Judges must be guided by the current American Dahlia Society Classification and Handbook of Dahlias. Any exhibitor in doubt as to the proper classification of an entry should consult with the RI Dahlia Society Classification Chairperson.

15. Judges must not participate in any decision involving their own entries or those of which they hold an interest.

16. Judges will award blue ribbons only if an entry is worthy of consideration for contention as a tri-color winner. The decision of the judges is final.

17. Exhibitors will be allowed to make no more than two entries of the same variety in any class.

19. The stem of each bloom entered must contain at least one set of leaves except Baskets or vases.

20. Open sections, Any Other Type. The best entry in each of the six classes, in both one and three bloom entries may be awarded a tri-color. The best of the one bloom tri-colors and three bloom tri-colors will be placed on the Court of Honor and receive an award.
