Al Werling drives from Connecticut to attend RIDS meetings each month. He has been a member of RIDS since 2003 and served as president in 2015. He has also been a member of the ADS since 2004.
Prior to joining the societies, Al grew dahlias for about eight years after a friend gave him five tubers to try. He now grows roughly 100 plants of 60 different varieties, entering the individual bloom category in local dahlia shows, where he wins numerous blue ribbons and tri-color awards every year.
While Al likes most dahlia forms, his favorites are incurved cactus and formal decorative. Some of his favorites are Camano Sitka, Skipley Bonanza, Edna C, Verrone’s Sandra J and Hollyhill Big Pink.
